Fishing Holidays on Upper Lough Erne

For anglers wishing to game fish, Fermanagh Lodges is set on the shores of the Lough Erne at the centre of the almost undiscovered Upper Lough Erne. Stroll down from your comfortable cottage and fish from the shore or use one of our well equipped fishing boats from the marina to explore the miles of inlets, channels and extensive reed beds.

The lakeside cottages offer luxurious accommodation with all the comforts of home. With 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms in each cottage, they offer very good value for groups of friends organising a fishing holiday together. With one person in each room; 4 people in a cottage costs an average of £140 a week per person (outside July & August). At the end of a days fishing enjoy a barbecue of the days catch on your cottage deck. Or gather round the wood burning stove in the open plan living area for an evenings craic and a drink. Or why not take the boat over to The Watermill, French restaurant just across the bay on one evening during your stay.

Included in the price are two 17ft fishing boats with 5hp engine, buoyancy aids, oars, an anchor, waterproof container and a map. Each cottage includes bed linen and towels, electricity, central heating, basket of logs for the fire, wireless internet, and the cottage is equipped with basic supplies such as tin foil, cling film, salt and pepper etc. Come home at night dock your boat in the cottages private marina. In the autumn light the wood burning stove and enjoy the craic with your friends round the fire.

Fishing Boats for Hire

Fermanagh Lodges offers traditional 17ft Lough Erne fishing boats with 5hp 4 stroke Honda engines. Anchors are available for pike fishermen. As are water proof containers and laminated maps. Boats are left in the marina on site for your use from the cottages. Preferential use is given to guests staying in the cottages.

Boat hire costs £50 for one day, £75 for three days and £100 for a week. A £50 security deposit is required for all boat rentals and any fuel used must be replaced.

Popular Fishing Types:

  • Pike Angling

Upper Lough Erne with its maze of channels, islands, inlets and extensive reed beds provides ideal habitats for pike. Pike are both prolific and large in size and a wide range of well known methods of Pike fishing can all be successfully deployed. Navigation in this extensive waterways is simplified with numbers being placed on each navigation mark. So extensive are the waterways you can fish bays and inlets for a whole day with only your own company.

  • Bream and Coarse fishing

The Lough offers excellent opportunities for bream fishing and there are some fantastic roach, hybrids and perch fishing. Indeed the waters of Lough Erne offer some of the best angling for pike, roach and bream in Europe. Bait tackle and permits are all available online at NI Direct.

Other nearby fishing opportunities 

Fermanagh Lodges are within easy reach of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Tyrone and North Mayo with many of the best fishing opportunities in Ireland. This allows you to fish three or four different rivers or Loughs in a week’s holiday. Fish one of Fermanagh’s most famous Loughs, Lough Melvin. Home to three distinct trout species the Sonaghan, Gillaroo and the Ferox. Fishing starts here in February with the first salmon, Grise from May to July and trout throughout the season. A short 20 minute drive will take you to the Colebrook River with its excellent fly fishing for trout. Or an hours drive away is the River Mourne were salmon fishing can be arranged.
